An Ad-hoc Post

Hello everybody!
It's Sunday. I usually have very busy weekends, but this weekend has been more than busy because we started our Saturday language courses at the CELEX. Besides that, we also started a course for Saturday and Sunday and here I am, seeing that everything is fine on this weekend course. So I decided to write something and check your work.I haven't started to ceck yet and before I do it I want it to post this funny note a friend in Nashville sent me. She's originally from Houston, TX, but is now living in Nashville, TN. That's the reason because being in Nashville she always sends me stuff that is related to Texas.Anyway, hope you all are having a good weekend, though is a bit cold outside.

Cowboy's Ten Commandments posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Fairlie , Texas :
(1) Just one God.
(2) Honor yer Ma & Pa.
(3) No telling tales or gossipin'.
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meeting.
(5) Put nothin' before God.
(6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
(7) No killin'.
(8) Watch yer mouth.
(9) Don't take what ain't yers.
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff.

Now that's kinda plain an' simple don'tcha think?

Check those links!

Hey everybody!I've added some new links that I think are really useful, interesting and good to practice. Some include quizzes, some others just provide information and, again, my advice about reading comics to improve your English proficiency remains the same. Read those comics and write those words or expressions you're not familiar with so you can come to class and discuss them to make sure you know how to use them.

It's Wednesday!

Well, we're in the middle of the week and life seems interesting though we still have lots of challenges to face. I'm posting an interesting and funny text I hope y'all enjoy, it's nothing serious, it's just to make you smile.
It's been really exciting to see most of you working on this 'blog' thing. Though I still need to see some of you a bit more active when writing. There are some blogs with no words at all and you're putting yourselves in a difficult situation for when the time comes and I have to assign a grade. Hopefully you all are reading between lines and find the hidden message. He, he, he.
Remember you all have to write in your blogs twice a week. You can elaborate on something you heard on the news, or funny issues about your personal life. Whatever is worth of discussion and good to share with us.
I might provide something to discuss here now... for example, what do you think of the time we spent watching TV? Is it good to watch TV, or do you have a better idea about how to spend our spare time? Think about it and let me know what you think. Remember to write at least 200 words everytime. Bye for now.

Something to think about...

On the first day, God created the dog and said: 'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years. 'The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten? 'So God agreed.
On the second day, God created the monkey and said: 'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span. 'The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?' And God agreed.
On the third day, God created the cow and said: 'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years. 'The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?' And God agreed again.
On the fourth day, God created man and said: 'Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years.' But man said: 'Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten The dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?''Okay,' said God, 'You asked for it.'
So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.
Life has now been explained to you.

A Pic to Remember

There you are! That's a great picture and it's now here to make it a bit more 'our' blog. No miracles with a simple camera, maybe some with photoshop but... hey! we're not promoting anybody to appear in Vogue or Cosmopolitan, ok?
I suggest you to write a bit about how you spend your weekend so we all can get an idea of how you waste your time (ha, ha). But seriously, anything that gives us a clue of how you organize your activities for the weekend would be a good exercise to start practicing your writing skills.
Myself, I've been trying to get everything organized for enrollment at the CELEX. This is going to be next week. Pass the message to all of those interested in learning English, German, Italian and French. Classes will start on the 28th and they will last until May 15th.
We wanted to offer Mandarin Chinese but unfortunately our Chinese teacher quit before starting the course. She felt a bit stressed with the idea of facing Mexican students. But we're working hard to get another teacher straight from China. I'll keep you posted on this.
Have a nice weekend!

The day we started it out

It's funny to write in my blog with all of my sixth graders looking, but I guess this is the way it ought to be... for now.
Here we are, learning about how to start a blog. This will give us the opportunity to share lots of things... hopefully. Of course, we have to get rid of 'mala vibra' because sometimes we are not that good to help those who are learning the language. But I'm sure we'll overcome this little problem.
My students are supposed to attend the SAC at school, but I was thinking about a better way to use the time they spend there and an idea popped in my mind and here we are, starting this 'blogs' thing. They will have to write in their own blog twice a week. I don't really care what they want to write about. It might be their adventures in school, their adventures at work (for those already working) or even a beautiful love story. I don't know... but they have to produce something for everybody to check... and review.
